Most important thing I've learned

Learning how to be an EMT was more important that I could ever imagine. I thought at first I would be doing a job that involved going to people’s homes and helping them when they were sick. What it really turned out to be was an invigorating feeling of helping people, bringing them back to life, making them feel better, watching their physical change when you would speak to them. I use my EMT skills even in everyday life, when I’m not in a medical situation. I tend to make papers really specific as we do in our medical reports. I always find myself asking people “how they are feeling” instead of “how are you?”. Kind of funny when I think about that one.  Pain is invisible but I can look at someone and tell if they are aching, hurting, or just not feeling good.

Having medical training is good in that I feel confident in any situation thrown at me. If I see someone having chest pains, I don’t panic, I know exactly what to do. I learned how to stay calm and level headed through the most stressful of situations, and put my personal emotions aside. Being the person that makes someone feel better or more comfortable is an amazing feeling.

  1. I was very impressed to hear that you are an EMT! I am in the Medical Assisting program and I'm loving every minute of it. Working towards your degree in becoming a lawyer is impressive as well. Good luck to you in your endeavors!!
